My name is Elena Bonat, I’m 30, I’m a native speaker of Russian. My greatest passion is learning and teaching languages. I used to teach English in a language school. After having moved to France I started teaching Russian via Verbalplanet, created my own web site for Russian learners and now I teach Russian on-line as a full-time job.
I believe that each student is different, so I always do my best to adapt my lessons to your needs and your learning style. However, I don’t think it’s possible to teach “only grammar” or “only conversation”. I offer my students a lot of conversation practice, but also grammar, vocabulary, listening and writing exercises. I also think that learning vocabulary is really important. You can’t build a wall if you don’t have any bricks, you can’t speak a foreign language if you don’t know any words. That’s why after each lesson I make on-line flashcards for my students to help them revise the new words.
And, finally, I really love teaching, so I always try to make my lessons fun and as enjoyable as possible for both my students and myself. My philosophy is to simplify things, not to complicate them, and I can prove to you that learning a foreign language is easier than you might think.
I have a university degree (Moscow University of Culture); TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate (IH); Cambridge Certificate in Proficiency in English (CPE Grade A).

This evening Elena read a passage out in Russian and asked me questions about it. First time I have encountered more than sentences and phrases and I was so pleased that I understood so much of it first time! Elena, thank you for another great lesson. Today we covered colours in the masc. fem. and neuter as well as the plurals. This was in addition to describing people, which is just one of the many things Lena uses as a tool for revision and reinforcing things we cover week after week. Honestly, if you are interested in Russian and thought you couldn't possibly learn it, or you're an intermediate or even advanced Russian language student, contact Elena, she's fantastic!
This was my first lesson with Elena and eduFire now that I think of it. Elena showed great patience with me and always wore a smile. "Patience with a smile" What more can a beginner ask for.

I think the Elena is a great teacher. She is very very patient. She does not get frustrated when you make mistakes. She is a really great tutor and I will definitely take more lessons from her.

Elena has been teaching me Russian for a couple of months. As a tutor myself and a lot of experience in dealing with teachers for many years I can confidently say she is a true professional and a wonderful teacher. If you have the perception that Russian may be impossible to even begin to learn (like I did!), Elena will work with you with a staggeringly straight forward method to prove the opposite! Finding Elena as your Russian teacher, you cannot be more lucky. I really look forward to lessons with Elena: they're always very friendly and relaxed. Her preparation prior to the lesson is excellent, always ensuring that what is taught is targeted specifically for my needs: she's great at spotting the common flaws in my Russian and preparing material to help fix them. Additionally, Elena always creates flashcards with lesson vocabulary, and the occasional quiz on trickier grammar points.
In short, Elena really is a great tutor. Patient, great sense of humour, motivating and encouraging. Highly recommended.
