Tutor
I speak perfect English, fluent Spanish, and advanced Japanese. I was born and raised in the US, my parents are both Colombian so I always spoke Spanish at home, and I have been studying Japanese and living in Japan for several years.
I am currently studying Japanese, Portuguese and Mandarin. I love travel, languages, music, food, books, and parties.
I work for a small but international publishing company in Tokyo that makes all sorts of cool language and culture-related products, like kanji flashcards and unique travel guides.
In my spare time I study, play the drums in a band, dream about traveling, walk around Tokyo, and take trips whenever I can.
I like lessons that are fun but purposeful. I want you to enjoy yourself in my lessons but mainly I want you to feel like you really learned some useful things. Hopefully after studying with me you’ll feel like you really figured some things out. My goal is to help you understand the language you’re studying, and to make it fun.
I am a native English speaker who was born and raised in the US. I have 3 years of experience teaching adults and children of all skill levels.
I am a native Spanish speaker who grew up speaking Spanish at home with my Colombian parents. I received my degree in Latin American Studies from Columbia University.
I have lived in Japan and studied Japanese for several years. I also studied Japanese language and culture at Columbia University. I have passed Level 2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency test. (I am taking Level 1 this December. Wish me luck!)
I work for a small publishing house that specializes in Japanese language study aids. My job is to make products to help people learn Japanese in a fun and effective way.
I will cater my lessons specifically to your skills and goals! I love languages, and I want you to enjoy learning a language. But I also want you to walk away from each lesson feeling like you actually learned something useful and interesting.
There are a lot of great things about Andres being your Japanese tutor, but my favorite is that he knows what will be not only educational, but super useful and interesting, too. Because he lives in Tokyo, he hears real Japanese on a daily basis and knows the things you'll need to learn to make it Japan--things you won't necessarily learn from textbooks. He's also really interested in Japanese history and culture, so sometimes he knows really cool etymologies or facts about usages that help you remember vocabulary and grammar.
Besides Japanese, I've taken a couple Spanish lessons from him as well, as he's also great there. Because he's a native English speaker as well as a native Spanish speaker, he knows exactly what points people like me (who only speak English) will need to work on to understand and speak good Spanish.
Besides his incredible linguistic skills, he's also a great teacher--nice, patient, friendly, and helpful
